TRUBUS Secures Orders Following Australasia Bus & Coach Expo Debut

AutoBus Australia has secured orders for the TRUBUS, Australia's first purpose-built high-capacity 4x4 passenger vehicle, following its public debut on the Scania stand at the Australasia Bus & Coach Expo in Sydney. First deliveries are anticipated for mid 2027.

Sydney Debut Converts to Orders

AutoBus Australia has secured orders for the TRUBUS, the country's first purpose-built high-capacity 4x4 passenger vehicle, following the vehicle's public debut at the Australasia Bus & Coach Expo at Sydney Olympic Park in July.

The first TRUBUS was presented on the Scania Australia stand, where it drew sustained interest from a variety of industries across the two days of the show. Orders have since been placed, with first deliveries anticipated for mid 2027.

Scania Australia named the TRUBUS among its Expo highlights ahead of the show, alongside the launch of its Super 13 engine platform. Coverage of the debut followed in Truck & Bus News, Australasian Bus and Coach, and Scania's own customer magazine, Scania Transit.

We arrived in Sydney with one vehicle and a proposition that had never been built before. We left with orders. That tells us the market has been waiting for this.

Built for Where Roads End

Built onto a Scania P-series 4x4 truck chassis with a body designed in-house by AutoBus Australia, the TRUBUS carries 40+ passengers into terrain that conventional buses cannot reach. Its 320 hp five-cylinder Scania engine, ground clearance and approach angles are engineered for unsealed worksite access roads, wet or dry.

It is the first high-capacity 4x4 bus with a fully integrated body built on a Scania chassis anywhere in the world.

Every component, from suspension to seating, has been engineered for the harsh conditions, heavy loads and demanding schedules Australian operators work to.

Operators told us the same thing over and over across those two days. Moving 40 people to a remote site currently means a convoy of four-wheel drives, or a bus that cannot handle the last twenty kilometres. TRUBUS removes that problem.

Tested Before Sold

Rather than moving the first vehicle to a warehouse after the show, AutoBus drove it directly from Sydney to Brisbane for brake and safety testing.

Between us we have spent more than 80 years building commercial vehicles in this country. We have both seen what happens when equipment is rushed into service. The first trip this vehicle made was to a testing facility, and that is deliberate.

Frank Turrisi, Co-founder, AutoBus Australia

The TRUBUS is supported by Scania's Australian network of 10 company-owned sales and service branches, alongside AutoBus Australia's own authorised body and interior partners in Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia.

AutoBus Australia is now scaling production capacity to meet demand ahead of the mid 2027 delivery window.
