Australian manufacturer AutoBus Australia has confirmed it will unveil the first production-ready prototype of the TRUBUS, the country’s first purpose-built 4×4 passenger bus, at the Australasia Bus & Coach Expo in July 2026.
Australasia Bus & Coach Expo - July 2026
The TRUBUS will appear on the Scania stand, showcasing Australia's first prototype from AutoBus.
The expo, held 15-16 July 2026, is the largest gathering of bus and coach operators in the Southern Hemisphere.
Preparations are now well underway. The prototype vehicle is in final build stage, with complete pre-delivery inspection, road testing, and compliance certification scheduled across May and June.
“This expo is the moment we’ve been working toward,” said Boris Cherny for AutoBus Australia. “The TRUBUS has been designed from the ground up for Australian conditions, and the foundation of it being built on a Scania chassis is fundamental to how the vehicle performs on the ground. Being on the Scania stand reflects that the TRUBUS isn’t a conversion. It’s an integrated vehicle, engineered as a 4×4 from the chassis up.”
The TRUBUS is a 40+ passenger purpose-built 4×4 bus built on a Scania 4×4 chassis with a front-engine layout. It is designed to serve operators across six industry verticals: mining, renewable energy, military, schools, emergency services, and tourism. Body and structure are warranted by AutoBus. The chassis and drivetrain are covered by Scania, with drivetrain warranty extending to 800,000 kilometres and service delivered through Scania’s 10 national service centres.
AutoBus sells direct to businesses, with no dealer intermediary. This structure allows operators to work directly with the manufacturer on vehicle specification, technical support, and warranty.
The Australasia Bus & Coach Expo will give operators their first opportunity to inspect the TRUBUS in person and speak with the AutoBus engineering team about their own fleet requirements. Visitors to the Scania stand will be able to view the prototype, review the technical specification, and register for post-expo briefings.
“We have built the TRUBUS from the ground up on the Scania 4x4 chassis to give us maximum structural integrity and performance,” Boris Cherny says.
A second AutoBus vehicle, designed for 23+ passengers and medium duty profile, is in development and will be announced separately in the coming months.
